Quick chat with Susan Reoch
You’re a UX copywriter. What do you love about what you do?
I love looking at the bigger picture of what people are trying to achieve with their online presence and then finding cool ways to make that happen with words. What I love about User Experience (UX) is that it helps people achieve their business goals by providing a better experience for their readers, so everyone wins!

What have been the highlights of your career so far?
Apart from appearing at The Content Byte Summit? Getting my start at Booking.com was the best intro into the world of UX writing I could ask for. I learned so much there. In my own business, watching Beyond Web Copy (the UX group coaching program for copywriters) grow into something so transformative for both the people who join and the industry at large is mind-blowingly awesome.
What skills do you think are the most important for freelancers to acquire?
In the age of ChatGPT, you need to understand strategy and how the digital landscape operates. This helps differentiate you from a lot of writers. We’re living in a
material digital world, so being able to optimise online experiences will stand you in good stead.

Why do you think the Summit is important for freelancers?
Beyond the insights you’ll hear from the incredible lineup, connecting with others in your industry opens up incredible opportunities—who knows what will come your way afterwards? I’m looking forward to meeting the future of content. Come say hi!
The conference theme is all about futureproofing your career. What steps are you taking to futureproof your own?
I believe my career is pretty futureproof thanks to my UX expertise. People aren’t going to stop making digital products. If you know how to make them better or faster, you have value to offer! I’m also learning everything I can about AI and how it can help make me faster and better at what I do.
You’re a long-term freelancer. What insights does that give you?
The people who succeed are those who persevere. Keep showing up and you’ve already won. (Also, it’s not as easy as it sounds!)
What are your thoughts on AI / ChatGPT?
I believe it’s here to stay, so the earlier you adopt it the further ahead you’ll be.
Do you think the future is exciting for freelancers, and if so, why?
Absolutely, I wouldn’t change the freedom and lifestyle I have as a freelancer for anything. I think there’s a lot of unknowns right now, but as long as we’re open-minded there will always be opportunities on the horizon. Stay hungry, stay excited.
